Chapel in Valleacerón:
The SMAO study (Sancho-Madridejos Architecture office) enthusiastic of Eduardo Chillida and Le Corbusier, created a shrine in Valleacerón,under the concept of folding in a material sense (origami) and in a deeper sense (meditation, prayer) by manipulating a bending carton box.
It is a bare chapel on the top of a hill, with no artificial light, which changes according to the observation point along the path. Only a cross and a picture are shown inside as some symbolic elements and only two materials were used: "The folded concrete" which enhances the volume , and the "natural light" which breaks into the interior space and provides it with loads of sunlight nuances throughout the day. In the words of the authors: "The architectural elements are the light and shade, the wall and the space." |
